  • Who We Serve

Open to youth from Nassau and Suffolk counties, MusicBreeds offers young musicians a yearlong after-school program that provides a roadmap for musical success. Our program curriculum meets at the nexus of musical talent development, business and entrepreneurial mentorship, and life skills training to provide our youth with the tools needed to pursue music at collegiate and professional levels.

Empowering the next generation of musicians

Young musicians from disadvantaged backgrounds and communities need a hand to level the playing field in order to turn their dreams and passions into a reality. Many do not have access to proper instruments to practice, life skills training to help prepare them for the future, or entrepreneurial training to give them a roadmap for success. That’s where MusicBreeds steps in by supporting youth with the personal and professional development they need to gain the confidence and the skills to succeed.

FAQs

  • What kind of training and resources do young musicians receive through MusicBreeds?

Throughout the yearlong program, our young musicians participate in relevant and engaging activities based on the real-world demands of the music industry. They interact with a variety of working professionals and industry experts and explore and develop their own personal artistic identity and brand while simultaneously developing the business and interpersonal skills necessary for a sustainable musical career. Each of our young musicians will create, record, and produce an original song and develop an artistic brand to reflect their personal musical ambitions.

  • How do young musicians register and attend the program?

Young musicians who are interested in the program must submit an application and go through an interview process. They must meet minimum requirements to be accepted, including being a musician of any discipline, meeting a minimum high school GPA of 2.5, and being a resident of Nassau or Suffolk County. Once they are accepted into the program, MusicBreeds offers four ways for young musicians to attend. They can attend full time in-person and access to the studio every day from 3–8 p.m. They can attend per class and select specific classes that are available for individual fees. They can attend some sessions in person and some online or they can attend 100% of sessions remotely.

  • How can someone help support MusicBreeds?

MusicBreeds has launched a two-year capital campaign to raise $150,000. The funding raised will support capital improvements needed to facilitate its program. MusicBreeds wants to develop its own recording studio, ensure young musicians have access to instruments, and have the physical space and technology needed to develop their craft. Donors can provide a one-time or ongoing monthly gift.
